Antigen and Antibody Engineering Department

About the Antigen and Antibody Engineering Group

The Antigen and Antibody Engineering Group at the Medical Biotechnology Research Institute is at the forefront of medical biotechnology research, focusing on the development and application of antibodies for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. Our research is driven by a commitment to improving human health through innovative scientific discoveries.

Research Areas

Our research encompasses a wide range of areas within medical biotechnology, with a core focus on:

  • Cancer Biology and Immunotherapy: We investigate cancer stem cell biology, develop targeted therapies using monoclonal antibodies and small molecules, and explore novel approaches to cancer immunotherapy.
  • Infectious Diseases: We develop diagnostic and therapeutic tools for infectious diseases, including the production of antibodies against viruses and bacteria.
  • Autoimmune Diseases: We study the mechanisms of autoimmune diseases and develop innovative treatments, including the development of antibodies targeting T and B memory cells.
  • Immune Deficiency Diseases: We investigate diseases associated with both underactive and overactive immune systems, aiming to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Our Approach

We utilize a multidisciplinary approach, combining expertise in immunology, molecular biology, and cell biology to develop cutting-edge solutions for complex health challenges. Our research is characterized by:

  • Antibody Specificity: We focus on developing highly specific antibodies that can effectively target disease-causing agents.
  • Antigen Presentation: We investigate the role of antigen presentation in disease pathogenesis and develop strategies to modulate immune responses.
  • Recombinant Protein Technology: We utilize recombinant protein technology to produce high-quality antibodies and other therapeutic proteins.

Our Goals

Our primary goals are to:

  • Advance scientific knowledge in medical biotechnology.
  • Develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools.
  • Improve human health through the prevention and treatment of diseases.

FAQs about Antigen and Antibody Engineering

What is antibody specificity?

  • Antibody specificity refers to the ability of an antibody to bind to a specific antigen, which is crucial for the development of effective diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

What is antigen presentation?

  • Antigen presentation is the process by which cells display antigens on their surface for recognition by immune cells, playing a critical role in immune responses.

What are recombinant proteins?

  • Recombinant proteins are proteins produced using recombinant DNA technology, allowing for the production of large quantities of proteins for research and therapeutic purposes.
